BSC fumigation
the 'oldest' bsc we have was fumigated recently because it is now for transfection use only, not for infection work. So the guys came in with the formaldehyde and sealed up the whole thing and taped the plastic to the floor. couldnt use the lab for the whole day, and the next day they put in the neutralizing chemical that stank... forgot its name. we took an extended early lunch just to be away from the lab. pity the other labs who were still sitting around the corridor.
The last pic is the heating element for the formaldehyde.

old microscope
Gave away our old microscope that is more than 15 years old because its really a white,erm... beige elephant sitting around. the lenses have fungus and the fluorescence lamp is dated. the camera is also a film type and no one knows how to use it.
Got a slim new one just to view our cells in flasks. ckx41.

kl part 2
on another day i went to KLCC, the petronas twin towers.
got up really early and went to the train station to get to town
queued up for free tickets. went to the 42nd story in this cargo-looking lift. it took 45 seconds to go 42 storys. at the top, your ears were ringing.
the skybridge. they gave you 10 minutes to wow and snap pictures.
one of the views. can see the malaysian cultural center, a malay version of the Sydney Opera house. and nearby is the malaysian ferris wheel. in front of is is a grey roof belonging to the national library.

went back to kl
rub in butter into the sieved flour
mix sliced apples with cinnamon powder, ginger powder, sultanas and a little brown sugar
bake the bottom crust
baked bottom crust
layer the bottom of the crust with flour, then add in the apples. press down the apples to fill up all the gaps
filled up pie
roll out some pastry for the pie top
put it on and cut off the access, then pattern the pie as you want.
bake the pie for another 20-30 minutes and you have a apple pie!
final step: cut and devour!
oh yeah, use the leftover pastry to make tarts. in this case, pineapple tarts.
went back kl for one week last week and made my mum teach me how to make apple pie.

UK boy
UK boy is back in town and prof brought us all out for lunch. (so to ALL you people not in Sin Island, make more visits!)

Prawn crackers with this chili concoction made of sweet sour and slightly spicy sauce.
Pomelo salad.

Seafood tom yam soup. Mel drank 3 bowls of it.
Foreground, basil minced chicken. background, fried groupa in sweet sour sauce. the fish ROCKS!
Pineapple rice that has 'bak hu' on it with prawns, chicken meat and blocks of pineapple hidden inside. came with generous shallots too.

After that sumptuous meal, we yearned for something else to tantalize our tastebuds and headed down to Allan Bakes (allanbakes.com). we were gathered around the outside of the shop for some time and gave the owner some hope of venturing in, then started dispersing and guess his heart fell. but finally decided to get something and we plopped ourselves outside and had to gather every single chair around to sit everybody.
ordered 2 pieces of 6 different cakes. in this pic, 3 o'clock is banana (5 stars), 12 o'clock is cheese (5 stars), and 8 o'clock is oreo (3 stars)
This plate displays 3 o'clock green tea (3 stars), 8 o'clock marble (2 stars), and 11 o'clock ... can you believe i forgot?

surprise! Allan came out with free jelly! the brown is milo and slightly bitter. but i liked it (4 stars) the other one is sweetish and very normal, still about level with Begawan Solo (3 stars).
He also gave us ice water, with star shaped ice cubes. How kind. Terence has already eyed the choc fudge cake and i guess we will be coming back here soon.
