We started Sunday (2nd July) at the Tamu or Sunday market. This is a very interesting place where sellers set up stalls selling everything you need to furnish a house and feed an army. It stretches about 300m and has two lanes, i.e. 4 rows of parallel stalls.
AFter the market we got our taxi ride to the Kinabalu park. Halfway there, we spotted a lookout tower and asked the driver to stop.
It aint that big:
Neither is it that high:
At the Kinabalu park, we put down all our stuff and went for lunch. Someone couldnt wait.
Lunch was this weird Mongolian style fried vege with meat. To us, it was just normal stir fry. You got to choose your own veggies and so we piled our plates.
Teren as usual couldnt get enough protein and ordered an extra plate of roast chicken.
We're headed there
Hawk moth nearby
AFter lunch, we went to the Natural History Museum nearby. Entrance RM2.
Different types of stones make one mountain
I have no idea why they displayed this. Took this pic through the microscope lens.
Fake one
Nice stones
Outside the museum
Our room. Comfy and relatively cheap. About RM65 per person.
Even got fireplace and Astro (cable TV)!
The whole challet to ourselves.
After a few minutes inside, the clouds started coming in. It rained for 30 minutes shortly after. The feeling of standing at that verandah and feeling the clouds and raindrops was simply amazing.
Afte the rain, found this spider outside the chalet.
AFter the rain, decided to go for a jungle trek
Look closely at the middle of the picture. No, you wont feel sleepy. You will see a frog.
Teren caught the frog
It started raining when we exited the jungle. Almost got lost along the trails because it was poorly marked. After a while, got our direction right and came out, walked in the rain to the cafe we had lunch.
Waited there for 30 minutes for the standard 6pm briefing by the Park people. They told us what to expect and do on the trek up.
The cafe. Nice but not cosy because all the windows were open and there was COLD wind blowing in.
Decided to get steam boat! Cheap, RM13.50 per person, eat until you 'siau'.
The freaking spicy thai soup and the normal soup base.
The interesting thing that happened here was there was this ang moh couple that sat next to our table and started smoking. They were actually outside smoking and decided to come into the cafe because it was slightly warmer here. We are non smokers and each took turns to turn around and glare at them for the cigarette smoke. We saw them talk to each other and spoke in english to 'dont bother about them'.
We then started to talk to each other in mandrin and hokkien at the top of our voices, saying how stupid these white men are, so inconsiderate, blah blah. Then our steam boat came and as we were eating, the ang moh looked at our table and liked what he saw and ordered the same thing.
And they didnt know how to eat steam boat. Their fire was too small and they put in a few strands of noodles, one fish ball, one piece of chicken, etc into the soup. It wouldnt boil because the fire was too small and they didnt put the lid on. And they didnt stand up to mix the stuff, so they strained their necks out.
So funny. We were peeping and reporting to each other what the two stupid ang moh were doing with their noodles and fish balls in Hokkien.
Finally they looked at us enough to guess how to go about eating but by that time we were done.
Tried to set fire to one block of wood and transfer it to the fireplace but it didnt catch fire and I smoked the whole house. Gave up, bathed and slept.
